  Founded in 1866, ̩��Ʊ is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. ̩��Ʊhas over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

The ̩��Ʊcampus, at the heart of urban Ras Beirut, incorporates within its walls a unique natural environment.

The campus, with its diverse make up of flora and fauna, quiet walkways and attractive views, has been a much loved feature of the city of Beirut since AUB's founding in 1866.

With the designation of the ̩��Ʊcampus as a botanic garden in 2016, on the occasion of AUB's 150^th anniversary, the university has reaffirmed its responsibility as a custodian of its natural environment.
