Geoeducation is an emerging field that links humans to nature. it promotes the understanding of geological processes such as the formation of rocks, the construction of mountains and valleys, the shaping of the beautiful karst landscape, that we will explore together, the fossils, the structures, water and groundwater, and many more. All of these processes are key to Earth preservation for generations to come and for its future sustainability and resilience against natural and anthropic rising constraints.
The educational material that you will see displayed on these trails is not just taken from generic books, they are the result of years and years of research on the geology of Lebanon and beyond, all done by former or current members of the Department of Earth Sciences at AUB. On the trail, our main aim was to simplify challenging scientific processes that happened at large scales of time and space and still happening all around us at very small rates to make earth closer to you. These narrated stories will take you on a journey through geological times.
We truly think that this special theme will make hiking on these trails more appealing, and we also believe that these trails will increase the visibility of Earth sciences and will put the geosciences back where they ought to be on the map.
