    The Interplay Between Gender, Employment Attrition During COVID, and Food Insecurity: A National Telephone Survey in Lebanon

    ​â¶Ä‹The COVID and related economic crises led more women to leave the labor force than men, widening the gender gap in employment. This job loss was associated with higher odds of food insecurity in men but not in women.

    Individual and School-level Factors Associated with Non-Communicable Disease Risk Score Among Urban Schoolchildren in Lebanon: A Multi-Level Analysis 


    The availability of food service areas was associated with an increased risk score for non- communicable disease among school children in the urban Beirut, Lebanon. Several factors spanning the socio-ecological model were differentially associated with NCD risk among school children. In the context of Lebanon, it is important to implement policies that regulate the sale of unhealthy food within schools.

    Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Consumption is Associated with School Neighborhood Food ·¡²Ô±¹¾±°ù´Ç²Ô³¾±ð²Ô³Ù​ and Unhealthy Food Consumption in Urban Schoolchildren in Lebanon and Tunisia 


    Density of urban unhealthy food outlets in school neighborhoods, along with ultra-processed food consumption behaviors, were consistently associated with SSB intake in schoolchildren in urban settings in both Lebanon and Tunisia. Other factors spanning the socio-ecological model were differentially associated with SSB intake across contexts. There is a need for contextually adapted interventions to improve schoolchildren's diets.

    What Drives Schoolchildren's Food Choices? Insights from a Gamified Choice Experiment in Tunisia 


    Reducing availability and accessibility of unhealthy foods and encouraging support from peers and parents could improve schoolchildren's food choices. Compensation behaviors might explain children's tendency to simultaneously choose healthy and unhealthy meals.

    ​Developing and Validating a Model for Predicting Child and Adolescent Obesity in Greater Beirut, Lebanon using Machine Learning: A Population and School-based Study 


    There is a need to address child and adolescent obesity in Greater Beirut by promoting healthy dietary habits focusing on breakfast consumption and limiting screen use during meals. Community-level socioeconomic and structural factors play a role in schoolchildren's obesity in Lebanon. Interventions are needed particularly in public schools to address the threats to healthy eating behaviors among schoolchildren.
