The Arab Fusion Energy Initiative

Fusion is one of the most promising sources of green and limitless energy for the future. It does not produce long-lived by-products or greenhouse gases. Its importance is reflected in the development of many national and international programs worldwide for over five decades. Lately, the private sector has joined the fusion effort, hoping to deliver power plants in the near future. Despite the large amount of research and development worldwide, we cannot but emphasize the absence of this activity in the Arab world.

To fill this gap, the Arab Fusion Energy Initiative (AFEI) aims to develop a fusion energy research program in the Arab world. Our vision is to be the center of gravity for fusion energy activities in the Arab world. We are undertaking the following exemplary efforts:

Seeking funding to support the various fusion activities.
Initiating, and managing the construction of a fusion device in the Arab world.
Assisting the development of national and regional research programs.
Engaging with universities, research centers, governments, and industry to join this endeavor.
Train a full range of human capital of scientists, engineers, and technicians to support the Arab fusion industry.
Coordinate the relationship among the various Arab institutions, and manage the collaborations with international institutions, public and private.
Initiate the construction of an innovative medium size fusion device for education as well as research and development.

This initiative will certainly help provide dynamic job opportunities and help the Arab region become a vibrant hub of technological and energy innovation. In addition, it will help the Arab nations gain access to international collaboration opportunities, which will result in building further bridges and opportunities, for the benefit of all.
